Dark Sky Weather

Summary

Dark Sky can tell you at a glance exactly when it will rain (or snow) up to an hour in advance, so you’re free to walk the dog or run out to lunch and know you’ll stay dry. You can also explore the most beautiful weather animation you’ve ever seen, both forward in time or back. (Dark Sky is available in the US, UK and Ireland.) YOUR WEATHER, DOWN TO THE MINUTE Using GPS, Dark Sky is able to create forecasts for your precise location, giving you minute-by-minute predictions for the next hour and hour-by-hour forecasts for the next day and week. BEAUTIFUL WEATHER ANIMATIONS The same technology that powers Dark Sky’s predictions also allows us to make the world’s first perfectly smooth radar animation. Other apps show you a chunky slideshow that makes it nearly impossible to tell how storms are moving. But Dark Sky’s radar animation lets you see the actual path of the storm: how it moved in the past, and where it’s going in the future. PUSH NOTIFICATIONS Dark Sky comes with advanced notification options: Receive down-to-the-minute alerts before it starts raining at your exact location, get notified of government severe weather alerts (for such things as thunderstorms, flooding, hurricanes, etc), or even create your own custom notifications covering the next 24 hours for things like temperature, wind, precipitation and more. Even if you haven't opened the app in days, Dark Sky will tell you what you need to know, when you need to know it. TODAY WIDGET The Dark Sky Notification Center Widget tells you at a glance what's going to happen in the next hour and the next week, so you don't even have to unlock your phone to quickly check the weather before heading out. APPLE WATCH Dark Sky looks great on your wrist. Get notifications and check out the weather for the next week with the Dark Sky app built from scratch for Apple Watch.

Works Sometimes (2/5)

But sometimes is not enough. When you set the bar so high as to call yourselves hyperlocal, people are going to expect accuracy. I was promised no rain today, and now I’m dreading running out to get lunch as it’s pouring out and I’m wearing suede shoes. Are you going to replace my shoes, Dark Sky? I didn’t think so. - Frustrated rocket man

I would love to see a visual refresh. (4/5)

The gradient on the top “bar” is starting to date the app, and some elements aren’t high-res, like the weather icons. I’m not sure if this is one person, or a team, but the experience of the app is wonderful, so I trust that you would be able to update the visuals to match iOS 11 just wonderfully. - slbee123

Not sure what the hype is about (3/5)

The app is reasonably well built and the forecasts are accurate enough. Unfortunately the radar is just poor. The radar data on dark sky appears to be between 15-25 minuets behind the radar data for “My Radar” or “Weather Underground” It will be raining outside and the other apps show the cloud cover and rain in its current locations while the Dark Sky radar shows the front still miles away. Additionally the other apps I believe do a better job at displaying the lower levels of radar reflectivity. Dark sky will show a clear sky overhead when the storm front is either on top of me or within 5 miles. Again other radar apps seem to accurately depict precipitation as well as storm boundaries. This app currently does not. It’s ok but the radar needs work. - Skifast87

Perfect, but for....... (4/5)

I've had the app for about a month. My sole complaint, it opens up, 98% of the time, showing an address that is approximately 3/4 mile from my actual home address which requires that I correct it each of those times. - Neptune 11

Don’t waste your money (2/5)

Dart Sky’s claim to fame is that they’re hyper accurate, but I find that it is not accurate at all. I find it to be less accurate than the free weather apps I have. Since buying Dark Sky 2 weeks ago it has failed to predict rain on 4 occasions. Don’t waste your money...the free weather apps are more accurate. - Moglem

Larry Geddes ....on face book (5/5)

I really like Dark Sky... Great App for the drag racing community... Look me up. Thank you. - Mr. Open Comp

Accurate and easy to use. (5/5)

I have tried a lot of weather apps. This is my favorite. VERY accurate. Very simple to use. Does not crash my phone like many of the others have. Has a unique feature; an awesome radar and temp global map. Includes wind, pressure, alerts... All the usual stuff. - TerelynR

GPS... (3/5)

It’s a good APP. But Y in the hell is there no way to get back to GPS/UR location on “planet view” if you move off of it when U CK a different location? Or am I missing something? I have to add UR claim of when it’ll “precipitate”/rain/snow accurately much less where we’re standing is total BS. Y would U make nonsensical claims which are IMPOSSIBLE to predict? Unless we live in Death Valley where even I can tell U it’ll be scalding hot...& sunny. Where I reside NO ONE not even God himself can predict from minute to minute. Great APP but false claims prevail. - Adeptone

Terrible on Apple Watch s3 (1/5)

I primarily use this for the Apple Watch complication. For this purpose, this app is worthless. In my two weeks of use, a third of the time it displays only dashes, the remainder of the time I get temp, hi/lo, sunrise/sunset. Except the temp updates rarely and is inaccurate. The first day or two the complication would tell me about upcoming changes, but that stopped. The app doesn’t work on my Apple Watch and I can’t recommend it. - SPathak

One of the best weather apps for the price (4/5)

I love this app and it saves you when it says it’s going to rain today. I just wish an app called “dark sky” had a dark mode. - ImAtLeast12

Best weather prediction app. (5/5)

Dark Sky has saved me many times from avoiding a down pour to determining if it’s safe to complete my round of golf. Worth every penny. I use it daily. - TARA4LIFE

Used to love it. (1/5)

Used to be great, but something happened a few months back and misses rain/snow forecasts. - qwertyuioopoo

Getting progressively worse (1/5)

The forecast are getting progressively more inaccurate. Notifications don’t show up half the time and it’s all very inconsistent. Used to be better imo. - Addidas23

Missing functions (3/5)

A friend of mine convinced me to get dark sky and I loved what he showed me. The accuracy is so much better than other weather apps and the radar globe is better than anything I’ve seen. However when I purchased the app for some reason I don’t have the same functionality that he has. Mine only goes 7 days out and he has multiple tabs for more uses along the bottom that I don’t have. Same app, but not the same features. Otherwise my rating would be higher. - The guy1973 24

Apple Watch temp update delay (3/5)

Since the last update my Apple Watch complication does seem to update the temp unless I click on it to open the app on my phone. Disappointing because that is why I switched from yahoo weather which was free already. Today (4/17/2018) my watch is showing a rain drop/lighting bolt and 0% chance for rain. - 007newby

More accurate than the tv weather! (5/5)

I've used Dark Sky for a few years and have discovered it to be more accurate than the tv weather person, on all channels including the Weather Channel. The severe weather alerts when needed sound at least 15-20 minutes before the NWS or NOAA sends them out. I've never had any problems with this app and I would highly recommend it. - KevinLMoore

Used to be the best. Now we never get accurate info. (2/5)

It’s pouring now and it states partly cloudy! 00926 What happened ? - Ronzo14

Business Necessity (5/5)

As a professional dog trainer i am outdoors most of the day and knowing when precipitation will start/end allows me to plan my day and get the pups out for training, play and potty without getting soaked! - DogDaysAcademy

Being the best (5/5)

This is THE best weather app out there. It is insanely accurate and we use it for skiing in the winter and boating in the summer, it never fails. I showed it to a bunch of old ladies at our club and they all use it now. - Boston weathah guy

Doesn’t work on Apple Watch (3/5)

I haven’t been able to get this app to work on my Apple Watch for months. Other than that, I really like the app. It’s unfortunate that I need to switch to a different app. - Elwots

Used to be great- bitd (3/5)

When this app first appeared it was amazingly accurate in prediction. Then, 3 or 4 years ago something happened - it suddenly became undependable/inaccurate. For a couple years I kept hoping it would get good again, but rarely bother looking at daily predictions anymore - I’ve found WU Storm to be much better. No idea what happened but others have reported the same thing. Alas, I keep the app for its globe - it works well, and I’ve learned a lot about weather patterns worldwide also. I do wish I could control the speed of the radar/satellite images, and also, when zooming in/out screen I’d like the option of selecting either hourly or daily view at any zoom at my discretion; similarly for the temperature globe. Another wish for the globe: that countries/cities names’ be selectable by language- I can’t read Arabic, for instance, but would like to know what country I’m looking at. Can’t the globe use Google Earth for locations, for instance, or is the premium too high? - jacksonoreilly

Absolutely Spot On (5/5)

Dark Sky is always right on with forecast for our area. When it’s going to start drizzling we get a heads up and invariably it starts the minute Dark Sky has predicted. I have Dark Sky settings for a number of cities in Europe and when I compare to other local forecast it’s absolutely spot on. - SYV Rider

Best weather app (5/5)

Compared to the Weather App that came with the IPhone and the NBC local microclimate App, Dark Sky give a better forecast than the others. - Joshsf1

Broken watch app (1/5)

What was once a great app is now a disappointing poor app that does not work on the Apple watch. The application can not even be removed from the watch. I tried everything from uninstaling from the iPhone rebooting both devices trying their fix to no avail. Time to Uninstal. The biggest problem is the fact the app can not be removed from the watch - Eb60

Precipitation % (3/5)

I’m confused. I expect precipitation % to tell me how likely it is to rain/snow. I feel like the app could benefit me more if it was dumbed down a little, to help me plan my day. Maybe the app is more for a weather enthusiast than for me, I just want accurate forecasts. I don’t feel this is what I’m getting, maybe I’m getting more “raw” data to interpret than I want. Dumb it down for me please, and be accurate with forecasts. Thank you - fhcgvb

Pilot (3/5)

Says unable to forecast due to radar down quite often. Which is usually if not always untrue. - AVI8trball

Horrible (1/5)

Weather Bug is far superior. - NYPigskin

Very, very, unreliable weather app. (1/5)

Not what it should do compared to other apps. Never ever uses my current location! Always have to manually go in and refresh, refresh, refresh! Even though I bought it it is time to trash it and go back to a reliable weather app. - Joeyjoeb1

Best Weather App (5/5)

Yes, you pay a nominal charge to aquire DarkSky. BUT, you receive the simplest, most accurate, elegant, and useful weather app out there. Simply put, it presents weather data that you can use in very practical manner. Buy this and you’ll never use any other weather app. It’s that good. - RD McAvoy

Simple with what you need (5/5)

I finally dumped “storm” for dark sky. I really like the add free clean interface with basic info you need to plan your day or week - minor app user

Watch complication always wrong (2/5)

Just like the title says. App says 55 degrees, watch app says 55 degrees, watch complication says 56 degrees. Then 1 minute later watch complication says 53 degrees. Geez the watch has been out a while now and they still can't get it right - Rod2526

5 Stars (5/5)

Living in Oklahoma, you never know if the day will produce a tornado or a snowstorm, so I've always had a weather app handy. Not only is Dark Sky accurate, it's easy to read and it's the most visually pleasing of them all. (Plus, for fan's of Marvel's "Daredevil" and the "Defenders," it's fun to have an app named "Dark Sky.") - keltia_b

My app doesn’t work (3/5)

I live in Puerto Rico after de Maria’s hurricane past my app doesn’t work, the settings are on, to alert me like before hurricane Maria’s past for the island, I love this app and pay for it , please if I have to do anything else - aldapr

Great when it works! (3/5)

The way Dark Sky calculates temperature is a little wonky, and the precipitation notifications don’t always work. The watch app is awful. But when it does work it’s magic! - theHokage

Best of five apps on my iPhone (5/5)

I currently have five weather apps on my phone (one I paid for). I compared them all during weather events. One morning before I left for work, I received a notification that it would begin snowing in 7 minutes. I quickly looked at the other apps including the iPhone Weather app. They all indicated it was currently sunny. So I looked out the window and sure-shittin’ it was snowing. This is my favorite app by far. - twain220

Great app - worth the $ (5/5)

This app gives me exactly what I need without the extra none sense. If I could give the developers any constructive feed back it would be to make the temperature scale on the satellite map slightly bigger BUT DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE. This app looks and feels great! - metromec

Crap (1/5)

I paid for this app because everyone was speaking so highly of it, but the weather it gives me is no where near accurate. It tells me it is 8 degrees right now and falling but the real temperate is 48. You are telling me that this so called best app is 40 degrees off? Waste of money - Ryan32575

Awesome Weather App (5/5)

really just LOVE this app!! So easy to read, accurate notifications and NO annoying ads!! - SexyShay632

Best weather app, hands down. (5/5)

By far this is the best and most accurate weather app I’ve come across. - Stevie GoodGravy

Change (1/5)

Not climate but this app... changes too much in Arkansas, understandably I get it. Our weather does change a lot, but I’ve know noticed this app does not keep up with this region as much as others.... “ rain storm staets in 10mim, heavy amount” bearly remains for 1min drizzle... and I paid $2.99 for this mistake... thanks and delete - 47839

Great information, but radar map is delayed (4/5)

The basic weather information and precipitation alerts work extremely well. The radar map, however, does not always update when viewed and often requires the app to be force-closed and restarted. The refresh icon appears to refresh the screen without pulling in new data. Despite this issue, the app is both useful and enjoyable to use, and the map visuals and animations are an improvement over the other weather apps. - C-A212

The Best Weather app (5/5)

I have used this app for many years it has amazing accuracy. Dark Sky notifications on iphone or ipad are spot on. They have worked out many kinks over the years. Living in south Florida and working outside during rainy and hurricane season I rely on this app to plan my week. Love love it. It’s a must have app if you travel! - LG5600

Doesn’t refreshing on watch (1/5)

The app doesn’t refresh on my Apple Watch, and that’s the reason I bought it. Every day, I look at my watch in the morning, hoping for a quick weather update. The “complications” icon on the watch face is supposed to have the temperature, but each morning it resets to the Dark Sky icon. I have to open the app from the iPhone daily before it will reset on the watch. - Wt25rp

Useless (1/5)

This has got to be the most useless and inaccurate weather app I ever used. Phone X says one thing and my series 3 apple watch says another. App alert says rain will be stopping soon... I look outside and it was not raining or had been raining all day. Looked at the forecast for the day it said -80 degrees for the low. I live in Ohio not the north pole. It told me 31 inches of snow expected, only got two inches. I know I live in a hole in the wall city in Ohio but this app should at least make the weather believable. - HowWeLooking

Not worth premium price (1/5)

The notifications are random. Sometimes you get one. Some times you don’t. The Watch complication is a joke. For a year now, the display reads: “Humidity 1%” I’ve asked numerous times about a fix. No response beyond “We’ll look into it .” For free, it’s pretty. For $3.99 it’s an expensive not-so-great app. - riffraf

Horrible predictions (2/5)

I’m not sure where the weather prediction information comes from but it is horrible. At time the temperature could be 15 degrees different than what my local be s channel is saying. There are times it is raining or snowing and the app says it is sunny out. I have sent developers screen shots and they seem like they don’t care. Time to try a different weather app. - Disney lover 21

SO GREAT!!!! (5/5)

I love the layout, the info, and the ability to submit reports. Great work please keep it up - Mattygunit

Developers In Denial (1/5)

How about fixing that incessant demand that I allow your app to know my location – you know, the demand you claim doesn’t exist? People, don’t trust this dude. The app is crap anyway. - greyjen

Do not waste your money (1/5)

Apple Watch interface is terrible, this app is great if you like very dull apps. I want a refund. - Shipsw1

Apple Watch Support is Poor (1/5)

I use the app primarily for the Apple Watch complication but it doesn't work very well. I've tried all the steps on the website and soon not working. So next step is for you guys to fix it. - KevinPurcell
