Dark Sky Weather

Weather · 4+

Dark Sky can tell you at a glance exactly when it will rain (or snow) up to an hour in advance, so you’re free to walk the dog or run out to lunch and know you’ll stay dry. You can also explore the most beautiful weather animation you’ve ever seen, both forward in time or back. (Dark Sky is available in the US, UK and Ireland.) YOUR WEATHER, DOWN TO THE MINUTE Using GPS, Dark Sky is able to create forecasts for your precise location, giving you minute-by-minute predictions for the next hour and hour-by-hour forecasts for the next day and week. BEAUTIFUL WEATHER ANIMATIONS The same technology that powers Dark Sky’s predictions also allows us to make the world’s first perfectly smooth radar animation. Other apps show you a chunky slideshow that makes it nearly impossible to tell how storms are moving. But Dark Sky’s radar animation lets you see the actual path of the storm: how it moved in the past, and where it’s going in the future. PUSH NOTIFICATIONS Dark Sky comes with advanced notification options: Receive down-to-the-minute alerts before it starts raining at your exact location, get notified of government severe weather alerts (for such things as thunderstorms, flooding, hurricanes, etc), or even create your own custom notifications covering the next 24 hours for things like temperature, wind, precipitation and more. Even if you haven't opened the app in days, Dark Sky will tell you what you need to know, when you need to know it. TODAY WIDGET The Dark Sky Notification Center Widget tells you at a glance what's going to happen in the next hour and the next week, so you don't even have to unlock your phone to quickly check the weather before heading out. APPLE WATCH Dark Sky looks great on your wrist. Get notifications and check out the weather for the next week with the Dark Sky app built from scratch for Apple Watch.

Not worth it (2/5)

When I first bought this app, the data it presented was very reliable. But over the past year or so, it has stopped working. It’s almost never reliable, and my friends who use the standard weather app get much better forecasting. - ChrisInPDX

Might as well walk outside (2/5)

This used to be a great app. It's about 50% accurate. Might as well walk outside and look at the sky now. - teaneedz

Go-to weather app (5/5)

I have used a lot of weather apps and this is the one I check first to find out what is going to be happening HERE. I have installed in a lot of phones for non-weather-geeks. It’s easy and super accurate. - Spinlady

Real time weather (5/5)

I have and have used three other apps for weather. They never even come close. - DrEwing

Great weather utility, could use more narrative (4/5)

My only complaint for the iPhone app is that I wish it had more narrative to describe the upcoming weather. Otherwise, the Apple Watch complication doesn’t work for me. It just displays all dashes, but if those 2 items were resolved I would gladly give it a 5th star. - nickab

Good but Would love to see... (3/5)

Need to be able to view multiple columns at the same time. For instance, I would love to see temperature and precipitation at the same next to each other. . Needs Dew point! - Caldwellone

Dark Sky is the REAL deal! (5/5)

Living on the road is so much easier with this App. Dark Sky is easy to use, accurate and full of information. Dark Sky makes it easy to check the weather wherever I am - by simply opening the app. The constant improvements are nice too. Thanks Dark Sky. - fatso411

Totally worth the money (5/5)

The default weather app and the yahoo app are okay for weather forecasts at a glance, but they don’t provide any details, making it hard to anticipate and plan around changing weather. There are other free options, but the interfaces are clunky, confusing, or downright unstable. The dark sky app, on the other hand, is the total package. It has all the details you need packaged in an intuitive and aesthetically pleasing interface! - iphonemikemike

Best weather app (5/5)

It’s got a great interface and very accurate. Love having the notifications when weather is turning nasty. A+ - tiredtridude

Best weather app (5/5)

Its the only one that is usable in terms of UI. Very minimal clutter in app. Has the best predictions. Location feature always works. Totally worth the 3 bucks - LordShakku

Superb (5/5)

This is hands down the best weather app available on the app store. I was skeptical for months on whether I should pay for a weather app or not, and I finally made the decision to try it out. It just works. It pin points your location down to street address – significantly improving accuracy. It tells you how many minutes are left before rain starts. And they are able to accurately precise when rain is coming. This is crucial for me, since I live in an area where rain is the order of the day. And Dark Sky has done what no other weather app has been able to do. Gorgeous graphics, easy-to-use User Interface, and magnificent accuracy. - Jon Elmer

Keeps crashing (1/5)

App keeps crashing if I add an alert for snow greater than 0” in addition to my daily summary and rain alert. Has been an issue for a while and I’ve sent this issue in the past. - GamerBoredom

Can’t find a weather app that stays updated on watch Face (4/5)

No matter what app I use, and this one is informative and good, they all get stuck displaying weather on my Apple Watch. It will be accurate for a day and then stay stuck on that weather for days on end until I activate and deactivate it through the watch app on my phone. If you’re looking for a weather option for Apple Watch, I’m just not sure there’s a functional choice available. - dwelldeep

Some bugs I’ve noticed recently (2/5)

The widget will sometimes be unresponsive, or won’t load the weather at all. Try to tap on it and it won’t open the app. Have to go to it manually. Also, the app won’t always update the weather when I switch from different locations (eg went from Buffalo’s forecast to Tel Aviv, and it listed Tel Aviv’s weather as being in the mid-20s (Fahrenheit) when it’s actually in the mid-50s). These have all been happening frequently enough that I had to download a different app for weather. Please update soon. - Knmacneil

Finally A Straight To The Point Weather App (5/5)

All the weather information you need without having to wait for ads, bro fail and cat videos to download. You see what you need to see and it comes up quickly. Couldn’t be more pleased. - prestoj

Couple Things (5/5)

Great app, but needs: - Dark Mode - Landscape View - Location list from Force Touch menu - R . D . L

Most accurate weather predictor (5/5)

Most accurate and timely weather app I’ve seen. Best feature: it follows your exact location and tells you what the weather is like where you are standing right now. Great for following wind conditions when you’re sailing on the lake or when the next rainfall is expected if you’re climbing a rock wall! You can adjust settings so that you will be alerted when certain conditions are expected to start soon. Love it! - leafsounds

Exact...perfect (5/5)

This is the best weather app I’ve ever used. My family and friends actually call me he meteorologist because it is so precise. - RobzGurly

4 star for now (4/5)

beautiful app but it would benefit greatly from a dark mode setting for the iphone x. will update score if this is added. - twerk4baes

Where’s the radar (3/5)

This is a great app! However, (as a former weather forecaster) it would even greater to have a radar image that can loop over the last 12 hours. The precip image is not a true radar. - Lcubed1974

Watch displays wrong temp (3/5)

The temperature displayed on my watch face and the temperature within the watch app are not the same. This happens routinely. Why? - wlewnka

Go-to weather app! (5/5)

seems to work very well in urban locations; rural locations aren’t bad either! - Sh_la_m

Rain/sleet not showing in New Orleans (2/5)

It’s currently raining/sleeting in New Orleans and your app says clear skies. I bought this app less than ten minutes ago and I feel roped off. Can you make this right for me? I’d heard so many rave reviews for y’all and I’m so disappointed. One sad, cold lady, Lizzy - Lizzy22925

A must have - especially if you have a dog (4/5)

Dark Sky tells me when it’s going to rain (with surprising accuracy) so I can know when to walk my dog without getting wet. - FloridaPhillip

Great Weather Source, accurate most of the time (4/5)

Dark Sky is a frat weather source for any exact location. It tells you exactly when rain or snow will start and stop at exact times. - zgers22

One of the Best Weather Apps I’ve Ever Used (5/5)

It’s rare I’d pay so much for an app, but the overwhelming positive reviews convinced me the price was worth it. I was not disappointed. It gives me exactly what I need and none of what I don’t. I like that I can get the exact information I need and not have to wade through ads for it. The one minor knock I have I don’t think is even their fault. The Apple Watch complication doesn’t seem to update unless I go into the app and then back out. I believe that’s an Apple issue so 5 stars, pay the few dollars. You will not be sorry. - mcain1980

dark sky (5/5)

AWSOME!! it has a map of the world. It also tells you the tempreture of the next day too. And the day after that and the day after that too. My mom loves it. That is why I rated it 5 stars. It is awesome. Thanks Henry Hoffman - Yorkshire Pudding Girl

Dates Needed (5/5)

Love this app. Mind blowing accuracy at times. As a Construction Operator i use it daily for job planning and organizing. It’s invaluable to me. By far and away the best paid app I have. Going forward, I would like to see a ten day out look though. And it would be great if it had the dates listed not just the next seven days if the week. Love it. Hope it keeps getting even better! - Kretz 5 Cloud

Dark Sky APP (5/5)

Best weather app that I’ve used for a while,I would recommend it to friends and family. - iJAP26

Yes!!! (5/5)

Finally! A Weather App that really works! I love it!! - Timbo663

App Crashes whenever I change in app notifications (1/5)

The app will crash every time I try to change in app notifications for weather alerts. I will review this app further when the obvious crashes are fixed. I don’t know how you release an app without noticing this issue. Do you test the app at all? I’m assuming not. - Drekryan

Disappointed —- useless for the price (1/5)

Very disappointed and definitely not worth the money. First the interface is very sad, and not friendly to use, and for the price doesn’t give much that the iPhone weather app. The notifications for rain / snow are mostly also inaccurate , at least for New Jersey . Not worth the money definitely - Emmanuel2707

Aptly Named (5/5)

At first, this app was slightly more accurate than the parade of fools that are usually incorrect on local TV. After a year, Dark Sky is the “Last Word” for daily forecasts. I love the Alerts before it rains. Predictions are spot on as users reporting conditions vastly improves performance. - B_rocket

Inaccurate forecasting (3/5)

For my area, I’ve noticed that precipitation percentages are typically very low and vastly different from local and national forecasters. As an example our area is predicting a 90% chance of precipitation and the app has it at 19%. That’s too big of a variance. Would love to see this improve in order to depend on this app. - His_child

Horrible forecasting (1/5)

Is it me or is this always wrong? Dark sky always contradicts Apple Weather. And Apple Weather is usually Correct. It’s literally Snowing in my face and dark Sky states clear. Apple weather says snowing. I’ve now been testing this app for over a year and finally just giving up. Goodbye dark sky. I won’t miss you. And maybe now I’ll be ready for the weather. - fzooms

Complication doesn’t update (1/5)

Dark sky’s Apple Watch complication always shows 76 degrees. This is completely useless. Don’t waste your money on this app. - bxbbj ddxx

Not Consistent or Accurate (1/5)

This is the only weather app I’ve ever paid for and it’s the worst. It gives inaccurate and conflicting information on the same screen. Right now it’s showing light snow ending and just below that 100% chance of heavy snow right now. At the bottom it shows snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches. When I go to the page that shows the next seven days, for today it shows snow fall of 23 to 38 inches! I want my money back. I can’t trust this weather app for an accurate forecast. - Denny1960

The most accurate app out there (5/5)

I downloaded this app a couple years ago. I have 7 other paid weather apps that I compare to each other, NONE are as reliable and accurate as this app for my remote location. It’s now my #1 go to weather app & spot on! Thanks Dark Sky! - DesertRain102938

Map Data (4/5)

This would totally rock if it had accurate and up to date satellite map imagery. Other than that I love the app. - Charger9

Overall, a great app (4/5)

Overall, a great app. Generally accurate and pleasant to look at. Display occasionally bugs and the temp/humidity/precipitation options will be displayed over the timeline instead of underneath. And I’d rather severe alerts showed inside the app instead of linking externally to Safari. - Brock McAwesome

Fun App but (4/5)

A typical forecast example calls for a 5-14% chance of light snow possible. Yet a prediction of 1-2” accumulation. I don’t get it. But still is a fun app and works well. - Nsarge

Not enough map detail (3/5)

I don’t see enough map detail to know where the precipitation is. There are very few known towns around and the ones that are listed. Bullfrog valley is listed but not a town with much more population? I wish I could have tried the app out first before I purchased it. - Use the word hate

Precipitation warnings ok, temp wildly off! (1/5)

This is great for immediate precip warnings, it’s horrible for temperature forecasts. It’s regularly as much as 20 degrees off. Reports as 31 his morning and it’s 47. I’ve gotten to where I have to add at least 10 degrees to every forecast. Not sure why they can’t peg West Texas properly. It has been a warmer than usual winter. It’s almost like it’s presenting last year’s temperatures. - Annoyedmomma

Nothing touches this! (5/5)

I have been using this app for over 2 years and to be honest this thing is scary accurate. If you have not been to their actual weather website (forecast.io not .com) you will realize that most apps and websites don’t use 7 models to make their forecasts. Highly, highly recommend. Keep it up. - theshiz917

Inefficient navigation/use of space, plain/utilitarian design. (2/5)

I like the radar. I like the idea of getting notifications about rain and seeing if it’s going to be light, medium, or heavy. Tho I’ve yet to see how this works, I’m not a big fan of leaving my GPS on all the time. I have to actually scroll once to the right to see the 10 day forecast, but worse, I have to individually click each day to open them. It’s all done in 1/2 the space of the ipad and requires about 10-12 scrolls to go back and forth. The conditions all show a white solid, with a black outline, so every day looks the same. I grabbed carrot weather as well. At first the “meat bag” name calling and “homicidal” personality put me off, but now I look forward to it. The entire space of the ipad is used to show the weather and I can easily see with colors what the conditions will be. It’s SO much easier to view the 10 day as well. I can see how one would prefer this, but Dark Sky depresses me. The colors of carrot make me want to look @ the weather. - Jodiuh

Used to be good, now worthless (1/5)

Have used it for a while - bought solely for the Apple Watch complication. In the last couple of weeks it just refuses to update automatically and often fails to update even after manually opening it on the watch. Very disappointing. - RomSK

Would be a five if the complication worked (3/5)

The app is great, happy to have paid for it! But the Apple Watch complication simply does not work right. It rarely updates, and when it does - it’s different than what the app says for the same location. - Jeffrö

All better now. (5/5)

Looks like the bug that was plaguing my iPhone X was finally squashed. TY - stulevine

Elegant interface-no ads (5/5)

I tried many weather apps before finally discovering Dark Sky. Yes it costs money but the other apps are either so cluttered with ads to render them nonfunctional (eg WeatherUnderground) or charge higher subscription fees. DS has a unique and beautifully elegant presentation of weather factoids. It’s all there; keep tapping on widgets to reveal more information; there is even more than first meets the eye. I hope DS remains uncorrupted - unlike the other apps. Thank you, developers!! - Ljoydam

Perfect prediction (5/5)

The most important weather is what’s coming in the next hour. Dark sky answers that question 100% of the time accurately. I no longer get caught in bad weather when doing errands or going for a walk - X-teach
